Liam O’Brien Olivier Bernard and Cameron Gascoigne Sign Up For Match

Newcastle Legends can announce Liam O’Brien, Olivier Bernard and Cameron Gascoigne will pull on the black and white stripes again against Gateshead Legends on April 7th at the International Stadium. O’Brien who is still the subject of a terrace chant to this day for putting ‘the ball in the Makems Net’ is looking forward to his return to the North East from his home in Ireland. “I love coming back to the North East. It has special memories for me. It is nice that the fans still sing my name and I have had a few pints of Guiness bought for me over the years. I am looking forward to pulling on the Newcastle Legends shirt again.”

Olivier Bernard was a vital part of Sir Bobby Robson’s team in the early noughties with the team have three consecutive top five finishes. He forged a good partnership with Laurent Robert on the left hand side of the team and has settled in the North East. ” To play for a manager like Sir Bobby Robson was an unforgettable experience. We had a great team and I have a lot of happy memories from my time at Newcastle. I have settled in the area with my family and enjoy playing in these types of games. It will be great to see the lads again and help raise money for Gateshead Football Club.”

Cameron Gascoigne is the nephew of ‘Gazza’ and despite his age, 16, has progressed well in his pursuit of a football career. He has featured in recent Newcastle Legends game including the ‘Pavel Cup’ in 2017 where he played alongside his uncle Paul. ” I am looking forward to playing with the Legends again and it will be special to play against Gateshead at the International Stadium as I am a Gateshead lad.”
